HAPPY MAHALAYA TO ALL INDIANS AND HAPPY DURGA PUJA

Durga Puja is celebrated every year. We enjoy this festive season. Before this amazing Durga puja, comes the Mahalaya, which marks the beginning of the Debi Pakkha or period. We get a feeling of Durga puja from this point of time. We find the sky is clear with beautifully shaped clouds. As if God is an artist who has painted the sky with artistic clouds. The beautiful birds flying across the sky and we are pleased to hear the mahalaya program from radio at 4 am and then in the television.

The Mahalaya is the  occasion for showing the talents. The television channel organizes dance and singing program in praise of Durga on this occasion. We cannot forget the program of Birendra Krishna Bhadra. Fortunately the lane where I live has been named at Birendra Krishna Bhadra Sarani. It was previously known as Northern Avenue.

In order to progress in life, we need to fight evils and negative forces and seek the blessing of Maa Durga. We are quite fortunate to be a part of this remarkable Bengali traditional puja. A few years ago, we went to Guptipara to watch the puja in the villages. I feel great to be a part of this wonderful tradition. In fact, many people from outside states migrate to Kolkata to get a glimpse of the popular durga pujas. We feel proud to enjoy the wonderful cultural programs in and around Kolkata on the Mahalaya.

There are a number of dance schools who prepare themselves for this  Durga Puja. The office goers get a chance to wear traditional clothes. The men wear Panjabi and pajama and girls wear beautiful saris to mark the auspicious occasion.  The dance forms like bharatnatyam, contemporary, oddissi and rabindrik are mixed and made a contemporary and the programs are organized to entertain people. The television programs show how the mighty Goddess Durga ended the Mahishur.

The  cultural programs are organized in the evening by  various clubs. Even there are many NRI Bengalis who  respect this occasion. It is a wonderful time and marks the beginning of the remarkable festive season. The rural side shows a remarkable landscape where we get amazing blue sky with wonderful clouds. This is the time for the artists to draw amazing sketches of nature.

The  Bengali songs like “ Rupong Dehi Jayang Dehi..” are unforgettable. The song “ Bajlo tomar alor benu” are quite beautiful. The music adds beauty to our life. We need to get energized for our work. We have to work with full of enthusiasm. 

Students should be held legally responsible for bullying in schools

We all know that Bullying is a very bad practice. Even I have encountered bullying in school. We also find it in engineering colleges and other colleges. It is carried out by some boys and girls having distorted mentality. They provoke those who are calm and cool. They dominate over the weak people. This should be stopped. Laws have been devised to deal with bullying but it has not stopped at all. The authorities of the institutions and organizations must be vigilant of this malpractice.

The students should never encounter bullying in schools. We have to take care this evil practice should not raise its ugly head. We have seen the incidents of ragging and bullying leading to injury and sometimes death. The legal authorities must punish them. We have to deal with them strictly. Our society is advancing fast using advanced technology. Most of the college goers and IT professionals use touch screen phone with hundreds of facilities. There are some students who join academic institutions for education. They join to spend time and bully those who are weak and submissive ones. There must be training to tackle this menace. The community service is an important activity for the students. It develops personality. We have to teach the students how to conduct a community service. Before doing any community service, we should understand that this type of service brings prosperity more than mere money making.

When you are earning money for yourself, it is only a fixed amount you need to fulfill the financial requirement. But when you work for the society, you work for a set of high values and get respected by all strata of the society. Life can be enjoyed properly when we live for others and not for our selfish needs. We have to stand beside the poor and the underprivileged people. We have to take care of them and help them get a decent living.

The students undergoing formal education in arts, literature, science and engineering forget about the society. They must take care of the society also. It is the society that helps them sustain their life. Their service will be directed towards the society. It is true that they will be paid by a company. But that company will serve the society irrespective of caste, creed, color and sex. We have to be sensitive about this  fact and work towards it.

The Almighty God has created us to serve. He, the Almighty, has given has two hands and two legs and two eyes to serve others. This may be the poor children or senior citizens. We must respect the poor child or the senior citizen. In a society where people get killed brutally in broad daylight, we have to develop our humanitarian side. We have to take care of the society to bring peace, happiness and prosperity in our country and above all the global peace will be restored automatically. 

Uniforms are important for school and office

Uniforms reflect the unity of the people in an organization. It may be a school, college or office. We can wear uniform. It is specified by that organization. Some organizations use tie, shirt and pant.  We need to follow them. Some organizations penalize their staff for not following the dress code. We have to follow them to  show our respect for that organization.

I have seen uniform in my school life. At St. Thomas’ Church School, I wore white shirt and grey pant. In junior class, I used to wear half pant. I had always respected the uniform. There is a tie and a batch. We have seen that the uniforms reflect the culture of the organization. We have to stay united for our organization and uphold the culture.

In history of uniform usage, we have seen high social unity among the employees. Though there is disagreement among employees, still it binds people of all strata and creates a connection among employees. Some schools and educational institutions were ties and badges. We see the logo and respect it from the bottom of our heart. There is a slogan under this logo that tells us about the basic message of the organization to the masses.

Every day I wore a clean uniform and stood in school assembly prayer. I prayed to God and hoped for the best of the school and also my friends. Life becomes easy when we pray to the Almighty God. We stand united for a cause. We have seen the dedicated workers of nongovernment organizations use the uniform as a tool for fighting their cause. We see the logo reflects the aims of the organization. An individual with uniform can offer good public relations.  

When a uniformed individual visits any office or institution, he is respected and his voice is heard by the masses. He speaks firmly on the topic to fulfill the aims and objectives of the organization. In this way, he fulfills the goals of his organization through motivational speech. Along with dress code, the power of speaking  and writing can change the lifestyle of a person. 

The legal drinking age should be lowered to 18.

Legal drinking age must be fixed by authorities of educational institutions. We have to take of children. They are the pillars of our society. Children are the foundation of mankind. We need to take care of the kids. We have to take care of the health of kids. The physical organs are affected by regular intake of alcohol. We cannot support this idea that drinking age is going to be lowered. We have to take care of those kids who develop the habit of drinking.

We need to keep track of the activities of children. At school, the principal must take care of them. At home, the parents must pay attention to the children. The parents must pay special care of children’s friends circle. A kid with bad companion can ruin his/her life. We have to think of the future of these. We cannot reduce the age limit of drinking. By drinking, we mean taking liquor. We have to teach children how to control drinking and resort to some other hobby. A bad habit is tough to give up.

We have to stand united and stop the illegal drinking of children. We need to take initiative and help them lead a better life. A child should not be given too much spare money. We need to see the companions of our children. Our parents should note the literature their kids are reading. We have to take care of our children before anything crosses the limit. –The life in urban society is fast and we have to control our children. We need to prevent them from leading a fast life.  

Drinking affects the child health adversely. The kidney and other organs are damaged. The mind becomes sloppy and slow. The kids lose their control after drinking. So we have to be vigilant over their lives. We have to teach them moral lessons on how to behave in a civil society. 

Every student should take up a performing arts course.
